Aston Villa star Jordan Veretout is expected to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship. Marseille are reportedly keen on signing Veretout on loan, but face competition from La Liga side Real Betis.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported this week that Veretout could sign for Marseille, after Aston Villa’s friendly match against Nantes on Saturday. The player had taken some persuading, but Marseille have been getting there.
Real Betis, however, could submit an improved offer, which could cause problems for Marseille.
According to Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe, Veretout had agreed to sign for Marseille on loan, without the option to buy, but it now appears his representatives are waiting for Real Betis.
Veretout was expected in Marseille on Sunday, but L’Equipe believe there could be a delay.
Marseille have been trying to negotiate the best deals this summer, after seeing several players leave. Once again, Marseille are trying to do their business as cost effectively as possible.
An update on Saturday from L’Equipe says that talks are continuing today.
