Idrissa Gueye

A number of players are in the process of leaving Ligue 1 side Marseille, including their skipper Steve Mandanda and young star Michy Batshuayi.

The club is a financial mess, and players keep leaving every season. Marseille’s president, Vincent Labrune is under a lot of pressure from the fans and media to get things sorted, and he himself is likely to be going through the exit door sooner or later.

There is no confirmation as to who will be the club’s manager next season, but it’s likely interim manager Franck Passi will lead the club. Passi reportedly wants to sign a midfielder, and has Aston Villa star Idrissa Gueye in his sights, reports L’Equipe in France.

Gueye, however, isn’t the first choice for Marseille at the moment, so he might not get a move back to France. The Senegalese midfielder is keen on leaving the Championship side, after signing for the last summer in a €9m deal from Lille.

Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo would want to keep him at the club next season, as they hope for a quick return to the Premier League.
