Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has shot down any comparisons to Radamel Falcao, and insisted he wants to beat his achievements not match them.
Duran has been speaking to ESPN about this season so far, which has undoubtedly been a breakout one for him.
He’s currently sitting on eight goals in 16 games in all competitions despite playing a substitute role under Unai Emery at Aston Villa so far.
It’s been a season of big moments for him, with a winner over Bayern Munich in the Champions League undoubtedly the highlight.
His influence with the Colombian national team has also been growing, with an assists against Peru in World Cup qualifying earlier this year following by a goal in the 4-0 win over Chile in the last international break.
The last great striker to come out of the country was Falcao and so comparisons have quickly been made between the pair.
Duran has some way to go to match the 308 goals he managed, plus the 36 for Colombia, but it seems the Aston Villa star isn’t interested in that anyway.
“We don’t know the future, for me I am from the present,” he said.
“Comparing myself to Falcao is crazy, he has done a lot, of course I want to surpass what he has done, there is no room for comparison. It is important to have had his teaching, I am very grateful to him, I want that friendship to remain with me for life.”
