Aston Villa star Amadou Onana has struggled with a hamstring injury on multiple occasions this season.

In October, the Belgium international suffered a setback that kept him on the sidelines for over two weeks. He picked up another hamstring injury in January and returned to the pitch in Aston Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 1st.

Unai Emery replaced the midfielder in the second half against Wolves and he’s been on the sidelines since then.

Aston Villa face Club Brugge in the last 16 of the Champions League later today. Ahead of this fixture, Onana had a chat with Pickx Sports and La Dernière Heure have relayed his comments.

The 23-year-old stressed he’s keen on returning to the side and is “a few weeks away” from regaining full fitness.

“My goal this season is to get back on the pitch healthy and perform at the same level again,” he said.

The English club signed Onana from Everton last summer and he scored four goals for them so far, of which three of them came in the first month of this season. The midfielder is confident he can further improve his game at Aston Villa.

“My debut here? I started off quite well with four goals scored but there is still a lot to do,” Onana explained.

He expressed his delight over playing alongside his compatriot, Youri Tielemans, at Aston Villa.

“For me, Youri is in his ‘prime’. He is perhaps playing the best season of his career. He brings a lot, and I am very happy to be his partner in midfield. He brings a lot,” he added.

Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio have impressed for the Villans since joining them on loan in the winter market. Teh duo have impressed for their new club Onana has praised them.

“I’m super happy that players like that have arrived. They have both proven themselves at the highest level. It’s very good for the competition with Morgan Rodgers in particular who is in great form and has already scored 12 goals this season,” Onana said.
