If there’s one man having a good 2020 at Aston Villa besides Jack Grealish, it’s Douglas Luiz.
The 22-year-old, who was bought last summer from Manchester City for £15m, has developed into a strong defensive midfielder, impressing many pundits and scouts around the world in the process.
He’s gone as far as managing to convince Tite, the Brazil national team manager, to hand him a couple of caps too.
On top of that, he’s caught the eye of former Napoli manager Gianni Di Marzio, who spent some time talking to TuttoMercatoWeb Radio about some of the up and coming players that have impressed him in the past and recently.
Among them was the Aston Villa star.
He said: “During the Toulon tournament, I was impressed by a playmaker called Douglas Luiz, who seems ready for the jump in Italy. He’s 22 and seems to me among the best in his role. Now he’s at Aston Villa, and has also been called up for Brazil. He’s very technical, he acts like a filter in front of the defence. A little like Miralem Pjanić, so to speak. He anticipates the opponent well”.
Strong words from a man who knows a lot about football.
Since joining Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz has scored three goals and provided four assists for his teammates in 43 appearances.
Much like what has happens to Grealish over the past 12 months, it wouldn’t be surprising if big teams came knocking for his services in the near future, especially with the Villains doing as well as they have done in the Premier League this season.
