Seeing his season cut short last year when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with France’s U21s, Jordan Amavi is now back, and already drawing attention with his performances.

With a new owner and an ambitious project, Marseille have been looking to bolster their squad in January, trying to please new manager Rudi Garcia with some signings.

One of the names to have appeared in recent weeks has been that of the French left-back, currently playing under Steve Bruce, but the player himself isn’t exactly desperate to leave the Villains mid-season.

Speaking to So Foot in France, the player said: “For now, I’m at Aston Villa. They count on me. I’ll do my best to help them go back up. What happens next, we’ll see later. I don’t think I’ll go to Marseille, I’m at Aston Villa and I don’t think I’m ready to leave.”

Such words are bound to please fans of the Championship club, who have seen their form improve since the former Hull manager took over from Roberto Di Matteo.

Currently 11th in England’s second division, Villa are just four points off a play-off spot, with the last slot currently being held by Huddersfield, who are slowly sliding down the table after a great start to their campaign.
