Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has insisted he has no immediate plans to return to Argentina, but that could change in the future.
The Argentine has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent years after several years of bouncing between loan deals at Arsenal.
He ended up being given his chance to shine courtesy of an injury to Bernd Leno and took that opportunity with both hands, with a series of impressive performances at the end of the 2019/20 campaign earning him plenty of admirers.
He moved to Aston Villa that year and has gone from strength to strength since, keeping 26 clean sheets in 71 games for the club and establishing himself as number one for Argentina.
Like many South Americans, the idea of a return to his homeland could be of interest later in his career, but while the Aston Villa man admits it would be his dream to “play in the first team of Independiente” as he is a “lifelong supporter”, he’s not thinking about it now.
“You never know what football has in store for you, but today I can tell you that I would not return to Argentina. Tomorrow, I don’t know,” he told TyC Sports.
