Waasland-Beveren defender Laurent Jans has told the Belgian media it would be good for the profile of Luxembourg football if he gets a move to England.
Jans has recently been linked with a move to Aston Villa and Southampton, along with other Jupiler clubs.
Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments Jans made when asked about the interest from other clubs. The defender confirmed there are other clubs taking an interest in him, but he isn’t prepared to name them.
Jans said a move to England would be beneficial to his country and as it might help Luxembourg finally get recognition in football, that would be a boost for Aston Villa and Southampton interest.
“Certain clubs follow me… I can’t say any more on it. A transfer of a Luxembourger to England could set something in motion. Perhaps they will then speak positively about us,” said the Aston Villa and Southampton target.
Aston Villa are looking to bolster their defence in this transfer window, and Jans isn’t the only player from Belgian to be linked with the Championship side. Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is also showing an interest in Oostende defender Bruno Godeau and a deal to land the 24 year old looks doable.
In November we covered reports that Southampton had made an approach for the player. It was claimed at the time Southampton could land the 24 year old for as little as €1m.
