Aston Villa made an offer of €20m plus bonus to sign Rodrigo Bentancur, but it has not ended up convincing Juventus.
Earlier today, we relayed news from Italy that the Serie A side may change their mind if Villa raise their offer ‘a bit’.
That has now happened, if a report from Calciomercato is to be believed. It’s claimed the English club are ‘serious’ to sign the midfielder in the winter market.
Bentancur has still not said yes to the English club and he would prefer to finish the season with his current employer and then take ‘stock of his future’.
At the same time, the South American ‘thinks about it’, since a move to England will see him ‘double his salary’, from €2.5m per year to €4.5m.
Tottenham Hotspur wanted to take the player on a loan deal, but Juventus have turned it down. Lyon are also looking at him as a potential replacement for Bruno Guimarães, who is set to join Newcastle United. However, the Ligue 1 side have not made an offer so far.
With the ‘new offer’ from Gerrard’s side, things could accelerate in the next few hours. Then it will be necessary to convince Bentancur for the transfer.
