Aston Villa have included Werder Bremen’s Romano Schmid in their transfer target list, according to Sky Deutschland.
The attacking midfielder has scored a goal and registered two assists from 13 games this season, and although his statistics aren’t that impressive, Sky say he is Werder Bremen’s ‘undisputed top performer’.
This has seen him attract interest from other clubs, including Aston Villa, who have been scouting the 24-year-old.
Schmid has already received requests to change clubs in January, but Sky don’t make it clear whether Aston Villa are one of those to have made contact.
Despite the approaches, it’s claimed the Austria international isn’t considering leaving the Bundesliga side in the winter market.
He has a deal at Werder Bremen until 2026, and the report states the player is planning to change clubs at the end of this season. They add his price tag is around €10m and this is certainly affordable for Unai Emery’s side.
For now, Aston Villa have sent an official to monitor Schmid live in action for the German club and would have to offer €10m.
