Aston Villa have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera in the summer window.

Last week, we covered claims from Spain which stated Arsenal are preparing an offer for the centre-back.

Radio Marca cover Aston Villa’s interest in the Valencia player, who has a contract until 2026.

The 20-year-old graduated from Los Ches’ academy and has been a regular since last season. Unai Emery and Aston Villa director Monchi have been closely monitoring him for more than a year.

It’s claimed the Villans have a good relationship with the Spanish club and took advantage of this to study the defender closely. As well as Emery’s side, Atlético Madrid and Villarreal have shown interest in him.

The Birmingham club haven’t tabled an offer yet for the Spain U21 international. Valencia have set a €18m price tag and the report states this is the result of Aston Villa watching him closely. This should be affordable for the Villans.

Mosquera is looking for a ‘solid project’ and the Premier League is an attractive option for him to continue his development. He’s not ruling out a move to another Spanish club if they can meet his sporting and financial demands.

Radio Marca state the English club’s ‘move is being viewed with caution’ at the Mestalla. They add the good relationship between the two clubs could facilitate negotiations as long as Valencia’s request is met.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Aston Villa will convert their interest into an offer for Mosquera.
