PSV Eindhoven would ideally like to sign Anwar El Ghazi on loan from Aston Villa before signing him on a free transfer next summer.
That’s according to Voetbal Primeur journalist Dennie van Laar, who has discussed the possible move today.
El Ghazi was linked with a move to PSV earlier today, with the Dutch side keen to keep strengthening their squad, particularly if they lose Cody Gakpo to Manchester United.
The forward is currently out of favour at Aston Villa, having returned from an unsuccessful loan spell with Everton at the end of last season.
He’s not a part of Steven Gerrard’s side and thus a move away before the end of the window seems the most likely solution.
A return to the Netherlands, where he spent the early parts of his career with Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax before a move to Lille in 2017, could be ideal.
It seems PSV are interested in making it happen too, but only on terms that would be very suitable for them.
“Ideally you’d rent him for a year and then take him over for free. That would be a dream scenario for PSV,” Van Laar told the Done Deal podcast.
“His market value is still at €9m, which is pretty hefty,” added fellow journalist Lars Teunissen.
“Aston Villa really don’t need him. Steven Gerrard has so many offensive qualities: Leon Bailey, Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendía and of course Philippe Coutinho.”
