On Thursday, Sport reported Aston Villa have held discussions with Atlético Madrid over signing João Félix this summer.

The forward will have to report to the club for training today, after finishing his vacation.

Mundo Deportivo say the La Liga side are refusing to confirm whether the 24-year-old will be at their training facilities today.

Félix has no future at the club because of his strained relationship with Diego Simeone.

Los Rojiblancos believe it would be ideal to give him a few more days off, probably for him to find a club. At this moment in time, Mundo state Aston Villa and Benfica are the ‘most realistic options’ for the player.

Over at AS, they say Aston Villa are the ‘main interested party’ to sign the former Benfica man.

Simone, his club and Félix all wanted to avoid the latter returning for pre-season. He was granted three weeks of vacation, after his involvement in the Euros with Portugal, to find a new club, but that hasn’t happened so far.

Aston Villa could open their door for Félix, where Unai Emery is said to be an admirer. The Villans made an attempt before he joined Chelsea on loan in January 2023, and will have another opportunity to sign him this summer.

AS claim Aston Villa director Monchi is trying to bring him to Villa Park, and so is Félix’s agent Jorge Mendes. Atlético are aware Félix’s valuation has reduced and Aston Villa want to take advantage of this to lower the price tag further.

Meanwhile, the attacker is scheduled to return to his club today. Both parties want to find a solution [new club] as soon as possible, and this is a perfect opportunity for Monchi and Aston Villa to please Emery.
