Aston Villa have ‘appeared as a competitor’ to Genoa in the race to sign Mateo Retegui, who’s on loan at Club Atlético Tigre from Boca Juniors.
That’s according to TNT Sports, who say ‘everything indicates’ the striker will leave Argentina for Europe this summer.
The outlet relays claims made in Italy that the Serie A side are expected to win the battle after making an offer of €15m including bonuses. Aston Villa have now emerged as the 24-year-old’s new suitor in the ‘last few hours’.
TNT Sports journalist Marcos Bonocore states Unai Emery’s side ‘want’ the Argentine-born Italy international and would pay a ‘greater sum’ than Genoa.
The details of the offer the Villans would make aren’t mentioned but it has to be more than €15m.
It’s claimed Boca Juniors will be entitled to receive 50% of the fee from his future sale. Therefore, they are ‘very attentive’ to the developments taking place around the player.
TNT Sports say the frontman’s transfer to Europe is about to be finalised and it needs to be seen where he’ll end up.
Retegui has scored 12 goals and registered one assist from 25 games this year for Tigre.
