On Monday, we covered claims from the Netherlands which stated Aston Villa had reached an agreement on personal terms to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.
That was no great surprise given the German media have been making it clear for weeks that the 25-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League and would be happy for that to happen before the end of this month.
The response in Germany was to state BVB are asking Aston Villa for €30m to part ways with the attacker. That asking price from the Bundesliga club has been somewhat elastic since the claims started and as they always do, BVB are trying to get every penny they can from a Premier League club.
Tuesday’s edition of Bild has a report which suggests Borussia Dortmund may be starting to get a little more realistic with their demands.
The German newspaper explains Aston Villa have now offered €18m, with BVB asking for €25-30m. There’s an acknowledgement that with Malen’s contract expiring in 2026 that there’s a push to get a deal done.
Bild agree with the Dutch media and say Aston Villa have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the player. More encouragingly, they report ‘an agreement is expected soon’ between the clubs.
