Rumoured to be happening earlier on on Tuesday, it appears that Frédéric Guilbert is heading to Strasbourg from Aston Villa.

Already spending the last six months there on loan after falling out of favour under Dean Smith, the French defender will return to the east of France for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

This is according to L’Alsace, who explain the player ‘arrived’ in Strasbourg to ‘undergo his medical’, which he ‘satisfied without a problem’, and is therefore ‘loaned without an option to buy’ for the season.

With the international break now underway, the player has a week and a half to get up to speed with a club he already knows well, meaning his adaptation to his surroundings shouldn’t take too long.

Contracted to Aston Villa until 2023, there will be hope over at Villa Park that the player impresses enough to attract attention for a permanent transfer next summer.
