Real Betis have informed Aston Villa defender Álex Moreno they’d be interested in signing him this summer, even with the deal for Junior Firpo.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that Betis have expressed their interest to the Aston Villa man despite closing in on a deal for Leeds United’s Junior Firpo.

For now, a deal has been put on the backburner thanks to the deal for Firpo and a need to move on other players before adding further left backs to the squad.

However, the Spanish side would be interested in bringing Moreno back and have expressed that to him. The 32-year-old would also be interested in the move and has spoken in the past about wanting to return to his former club at some point.

Firpo has been targeted first because he’s available on a free. Moreno has a year left on his deal at Aston Villa so would have to be negotiated for.

That doesn’t mean he’s off the table, though, and instead if Betis move on the likes of Ricardo Rodríguez and Romain Perraud are moved on, he could then be targeted. Moreno is seen as a player who guarantees performance from the first minute.

They’ve informed his agents of their potential interest and while he’s not a priority, he is a name to keep an eye on in this window.
