Lucas Digne was called up by Didier Deschamps on Monday as injuries had hit the France squad.

The Aston Villa player was given a big chance ahead of the World Cup, with the opportunity to impress and get himself back into the first choice squad ahead of the tournament in Qatar.

However, the good fortune he received has been short lived, and the French football association have reported Digne has now had to withdraw from the squad due to his own injury.

According to the FFF, the Aston Villa player has received a blow to his ankle and the association doctor has decided he’ll be unfit for the entire international break.

That will see him miss the matches against Austria and Denmark, and miss out on the chance to impress Deschamps after being called up to replace Theo Hernandez.

There’s no further information on how long Digne will be out for, so it’s a concern Steven Gerrard will have to consider in the coming weeks.
