There are claims in the Italian media Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is set for a return to his home country. The 21-year-old only joined Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, but in recent weeks has been linked with a return to Serie A.

TMW have today reported Gollini has agreed to join Atalanta in this transfer window.

Yesterday it was confirmed highly rated Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello would be signing for Fiorentina after he lost his place in the team. The Serie A side therefore want Aston Villa’s Gollini, who is likely to provide back up to their current No.1 Etrit Berisha.

Gollini recently lost his place in the team after starting the season as the club’s No.1. The Aston Villa goalkeeper has also been linked with Inter Milan and Genoa in recent weeks.

Update:

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has since confirmed Gollini will be joining Atalanta on loan.
