Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz spoke to the Brazilian press on Tuesday, as he took part in a press conference for the national team.
With both the midfielder and his club having a great time in the Premier League, the player landed in Brazil with lots of enthusiasm, and could even have a chance to be a starter in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
Douglas Luiz agrees he’s been making great progress at Aston Villa, and talked about his biggest improvements since the first pandemic break.
“Explaining a little about my evolution, as soon as I arrived at Aston Villa it was two days before the Premier League started,” said Douglas Luiz (via Globo Esporte).
“It hindered me a little by not living with the players. After the break, I had time to do the training, get physically fit. It was the real change, to have known the players more and more.
“We’ve been doing a very good job, we had time to work. It was a very different season than the one in which we fought not to be relegated. This strengthened us so that we can do our best this season. We had signings that were essential, that adjusted the team, the coach has been doing a great job and we could beat the current champions. We want to continue doing our job to stay in the Premier League and aim for something bigger.”
Since Manchester City still have a buyback clause to bring Douglas Luiz back to the club, he was asked about this possibility as well.
“About Manchester City, I’ve been doing my job at Aston Villa, I don’t really have conversations with City or Guardiola. But it’s a job that went together, I had help from City with Aston Villa to be able to play in the Premier League. It’s a very good thing to be able to play there without any difficulty.”
Brazil are playing Bolivia at home on Friday and then Peru away on Tuesday. Following the international break, Douglas Luiz joins Aston Villa to play Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on the 17th of October.
