Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen has been linked with a move back to Malmö FF in the winter market.

Two months ago, we covered claims from Sweden which stated Malmö are making a firm attempt to secure the 34-year-old’s services.

Malmö stopper Johan Dahlin is set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury in October. This has seen them identify the Aston Villa man as the candidate to replace him.

Last month, Aftonbladet stated the Swedish club are trying to sign the Aston Villa man in January. A fresh report from Fotboll Direkt now encourages them to acquire the Sweden international’s services.

Olsen spent three years at Malmö’s academy and returned to the club in 2012, before leaving again them in 2015. The outlet claims the ‘time has come’ for him to rejoin his former club in the upcoming window.

The stopper made only one appearance for Aston Villa this season and has been behind Emiliano Martínez in the pecking order. He has just over six months left on his deal and needs to make a decision on his future.

Fotboll Direkt have encouraged Olsen to the leave the Villans and return to Malmö next month. They add he also has a house ready in Skåne.

Dahlin and Ricardo Friedrich are currently at Malmö, but the Aston Villa goalkeeper can be ‘symbolic signing’ for them. It’ll be interesting to see whether Olsen and Unai Emery’s side are open to a January move.
