Moussa Diaby may have just joined Aston Villa this summer, but he’s already speaking of a potential move to a new old club.
That’s Paris Saint Germain, to whom the winger belonged for years, spending a long time with their academy.
Diaby was this week interviewed by Onze Mondial, in quotes relayed by Foot Mercato. There, he was asked about the possibility of returning to PSG one day, and made it clear that despite his exit from the French club, he still has deep feelings for them and remembers his time there fondly.
“PSG is my formative club. I learned everything there, I spent seven years at the club, I rubbed shoulders with a lot of players. Some are professionals today, others are not. I played my first professional match for PSG. It was a powerful and important moment. I can’t forget that. It’s the club from the capital, the city where I come from. PSG was a good adventure for me. I had to take a different path reluctantly. To develop my career and progress, I had to leave. By staying at PSG, I would have had less playing time.”
Diaby may have spent all those years at PSG’s academy, but the truth is that he had few opportunities to prove himself at the club, and only made 34 appearances, contributing four goals and seven assists.
In 2019, he was sold to Bayer Leverkusen, and that’s where he finally had the chance to show his football and draw interest from many European clubs, including Aston Villa.
Unai Emery’s side spent €55m to sign him from the Bundesliga club this summer. So far, Diaby has made seven appearances for them, with two goals and two assists.
Considering his feelings for PSG, Aston Villa should now watch out for potential interest from the Ligue 1 side, however, he’d have to be doing very well and the French side would surely then have to provide Villa with a good profit.
