Reading between the lines of the endless reports in the media around Sevilla, what Aston Villa appear to have done with Loïc Badé is make their offer, although not formally, and then after the La Liga club asked for €30m or more… not done much since.

Aston Villa’s bid was said to be €21m plus a further €5m in potential bonus payments. That wasn’t considered enough, which is probably fair enough.

Yet, despite all the sabre rattling coming from Seville, they don’t appear to have got involved since, either moving on to other targets or just letting Victor Orta and his club stew a little.

Seville has two major daily newspapers, ABC Sevilla and Diario de Sevilla.

Thursday’s edition of ABC Sevilla reports it’s now ‘tense hours’ at the club as the final days of the market are entered and they still haven’t completed the business they wanted to.

Their report states: ‘Sevilla has hardened its position to negotiate. It thinks that the Frenchman has a value above €25m fixed plus bonuses and does not want to back down from that position.’

That’s lower than €30m, right?! Progress… perhaps.

Over at Diario de Sevilla they’re pleading poverty on behalf of Sevilla, maybe with good reason.

You’ve probably heard about Barcelona’s ongoing battles to be allowed to register players, well Sevilla are in a similar position. They can’t even replace what they rid themselves of, to be clear that means if they sell a player for €30m and get rid of his €80k a week salary, they can’t then simply replace that on the accounts.

As Diario de Sevilla explain, ‘Of every million in sales, only 20% could be used for signings and 60% for salaries’.

Regarding Loïc Badé, they also owe Rennes a percentage of profit and paid €12m for him in the first place.

The newspaper says Aston Villa’s offer would mean ‘at most €25m or a little more’.

Perhaps €25m fixed plus bonuses could do the trick to sign the 24-year-old.
