Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is ‘closely following’ Valencia youngster Jesús Vázquez as a potential replacement for Alex Moreno or Lucas Digne.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who say that Aston Villa are one of the clubs ‘showing interest’ in the youngster should he be allowed to leave Valencia this summer.
They explain that there is a chance the ‘promising left-back’ could leave the Mestalla in this window as the player knows he has wasted the last two years of his development and is unlikely to be first choice ahead of José Gayà this season.
He knows that he is in a ‘very delicate’ point in his career as he needs regular football to keep developing.
Thus, there is a ‘case’ to be solved with him and his agents suggesting that he be moved on to a team where he can be a first-team regular.
Several teams in La Liga have shown an interest in him but Aston Villa, specifically Unai Emery, are ‘closely following’ his situation in the market as well.
They’ve put his name on a list of ‘feasible options’ for them to explore if there are movements with either Alex Moreno or Lucas Digne this summer.
The former seems unlikely given he only arrived in the January transfer window and has impressed since moving to Villa Park but there’s every chance that Digne could be moved on after falling down the pecking order.
If that happens it seems Vázquez is on the list of potential replacements as Emery continues to look at a market he knows well.
