On May 16th, we relayed news from Spain that Unai Emery ‘asks’ Aston Villa to sign Villarreal’s Dani Parejo this summer.
The 34-year-old’s deal expires in 2024 and El Periódico Mediterráneo state the La Liga side have offered him a three-year deal. He managed three goals and six assists from 50 games last season.
His profile and leadership qualities have made him a ‘fundamental player’ at Villarreal. At the same time, Parejo also has several suitors who have tested the ground to secure his services.
The report states one of them is Aston Villa, who are in the picture to sign the midfielder in this window. Apart from the Villans, Barcelona are the only other club to be mentioned.
The Spaniard must make a decision shortly on his future and the Yellow Submarine are hopeful he’ll accept the three-year deal proposed to him.
El Periódico Mediterráneo state Villarreal president Fernando Roig Negueroles has already met the star’s agent to discuss his renewal. However, the former has denied this during an interview with AS.
When directly asked if Parejo’s deal will be renewed, Fernando Roig Negueroles said: “He has a year left on his contract and we still haven’t sat down to talk. We are all aware of what he gives us.”
“But we know that there have been other very good and important players, around whom the team’s game has revolved, and that no one is eternal or irreplaceable. Hopefully he can be with us for a long time.”
