Pierluigi Gollini left Aston Villa for Atalanta on a season and a half long loan fully expecting to actually play. Steve Bruce had other ideas for Aston Villa’s goalkeeping situation and after a very poor start Sam Johnstone is doing a little better, but he’s only on loan from Manchester United until the summer.
Gollini has had to play second fiddle at Atalanta and will hope things are different next season. Given the club lost their last match 7-1, to Inter Milan, Etrit Berisha is under pressure.
Betrit’s loan from Lazio ends in the summer with Atalanta having a buying option, but the Italians may choose to pass that up, given they’ve got Gollini from Aston Villa.
Whilst Gollini may not have been able to get on the pitch yet, he’s still playing a part in Atalanta life and keeps popping up at events.
Corriere dello Sport have an article on Thursday explain how the goalkeeper attended a youth football event and shared the following words of wisdom with the youngsters present: “I think I’m lucky because years ago I was like you, and now I make my hobby into a job. I wish all of you guys such luck. Commit and always give the best, but remember that football is a game and there are also many other important things in life, such as work and study.”
