Aston Villa scouts were spotted in Portugal on Monday night, where they watched Benfica’s away win against Chaves, according to O Jogo.
The Eagles, who have won the Portuguese league for the past four years, struggled to beat the Northern club, but ended up finding a late winner scored by Haris Seferovic.
The newspaper doesn’t mention any specific players who the Aston Villa spies were watching.
Benfica didn’t have any player who could seriously impress the Aston Villa scouts, and those who had a good match, like André Almeida, Pizzi and Salvio, are important players for the squad who a Championship club wouldn’t like to pay over €30m for.
But there were a few positives from Chaves to see, from goalkeeper Ricardo and defensive midfielder Jefferson, who did a good job on stopping Benfica until the last minutes.
Other clubs who sent scouts to this game included Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Montpellier, Anderlecht, Celta Vigo and Atalanta.
