It seems that Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Watford scouts had a special Champions League mission this Wednesday night.
As reported by Portuguese newspaper Record today, the Villains, Magpies and Hornets were among the 18 clubs who sent emissaries to the match between Benfica and Bayern Munich in Lisbon.
In a not very surprising result, the German side won the match 2-0, with goals scored by Robert Lewandowski and the former Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.
Record doesn’t seem to know which players the clubs were keeping an eye on, and checking our records, neither Aston Villa, Newcastle nor Watford have been linked a lot to stars from Bayern or Benfica lately.
It was a solid performance from Bayern Munich, who didn’t need much to beat the home side. Record of course picks Renato Sanches, who didn’t celebrate his goal against his former club, as the man of the match.
For Benfica, there was only one positive performance to take, which was Odisseas Vlachodimos’.
The German goalkeeper was responsible for stopping a bigger defeat.
Along with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Watford, other English clubs such as Arsenal, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Manchester United all attended to the match as well.
