Aston Villa and Newcastle United sent scouts to watch the Jupiler Pro League match between KAA Gent and SV Zulte Waregem, reports Sporting Anderlecht.
KAA Gent won the game 3-0, with Kalifa Coulibaly scoring twice Moses Simon also on the scoresheet. There is no mention of any players the Premier League sides could be particularly watching, although Sporting Anderlecht said Gent’s Thomas Foket, Renato Neto (on loan from Sporting Lisbon), Kalifa Coulibaly, Moses Simon and Zulte Waregem’s Soualiho Meïté are all possibilities.
Moses Simon (pictured) has been in fine form for KAA Gent this season, and the 21 year old winger has 3 goals and 2 assists to his name.
It’s not surprising to see the Championship clubs using their scouting resources in Belgium, as they’ve been producing a lot of talents lately. Whereas maybe France now holds few hidden gems, at least in Ligue 1, and costs have risen, Belgium can still provide relative bargains.
Both Villa and Newcastle have scouted matches in Belgium over the past few years, attending games quite regularly. For Newcastle United, it’s seen them sign Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrović, both from Anderlecht.
