Aston Villa remain in the hunt for Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica, with sports director Frank Baumann confirming their interest.

Villa have been keen to improve their forward line this summer, having struggled for goals last season.

They have already completed a big-money move for Brentford’s Ollie Watkins but are determined to add further, with a winger seemingly at the top of their list.

That has seen them linked to Bremen’s Rashica, while they are also in advanced negotiations for Lyon’s Bertrand Traore.

The move for Traore had seemingly put Aston Villa’s interest in Rashica on the backburner, but according to Baumann, it still remains.

“There are several interested parties, and Aston Villa is one of them,” he told BILD.

“He will be back on the field very quickly. That’s why it doesn’t matter for a transfer.

“Milot is with us in the rehab process to get himself in good shape. Whether for us or another club, we’ll see…

“It could also be that Milot is still here at the start of the season or beyond October 5th. The probability is there, but it is not the greatest.”

In terms of the potential transfer, BILD explain that Aston Villa are ‘ready’ to put down €18m for the Kosovan forward despite being interested in Traore.

There is also good news in terms of competition. Rashica had been keen on a move to RB Leipzig, but the newspaper says despite this being the ‘initial hot lead’ their interest has now ‘cooled down’ because they don’t want to match Bremen’s demands.

Those demands are claimed to be €20m plus, meaning that Aston Villa would still be short of the valuation with an €18m bid.

Either way, they are ‘in the running’ for his signature, and Werder ‘continue to play poker’ in their search for a ‘reasonable price’.

That would suggest they are very much open to negotiations and this potential deal is very much a possibility.
