Aston Villa and Manchester United are chasing Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo, according to Il Mattino.
In August, the 30-year-old signed a new deal until 2028, with a hope of finishing his career at the Serie A side.
That’s no longer the case as the right-back is seriously thinking of leaving, after reportedly receiving calls from both Aston Villa and Manchester United.
It’s claimed the Premier League duo surprisingly found the door open for a transfer, after they made contact with Di Lorenzo’s camp.
Il Mattino’s title says Aston Villa and Manchester United’s offers ‘are on the table’, and within the report, it’s said he will listen and evaluate the proposals.
Di Lorenzo had never encountered such a situation in his career before as he wanted to retire at Napoli. However, their poor season and lack of clarity over their sporting project seems to have changed his mind.
The fullback is waiting to find out more about Napoli’s plans for next season and also their next manager.
The Italian wants a winning project and if it’s not made available at Napoli, he could look for a new experience at Aston Villa, Manchester United or another club in the summer.
Di Lorenzo has managed two goals and seven assists from 40 games this season. This all feels like the latest in-house drama at Napoli, of which there’s been several this season.
Whether Manchester United or Aston Villa truly want to take advantage of that or are being used to hype the latest Napoli soap opera remains to be seen.
