Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez ‘will have to travel’ back to Aston Villa ‘in the next hours’ following his World Cup exploits with Argentina.
That’s according to 2261, who say the goalkeeper is due to return to England and resume life in the Premier League.
Martinez was again one of Argentina’s key players in Qatar, playing a key role in their eventual success.
He was the main man when the final against France went to penalties, coming up with big stops again to ensure it was his side walking away with the trophy.
Unlike several of his Argentine teammates, or indeed those playing for France, he is yet to return from the extended break he took following the tournament in Qatar.
That is despite the Premier League season having resumed on Boxing Day, with Aston Villa losing out to Liverpool with Robin Olsen deputising.
Martinez has instead been holidaying in his homeland, and 2261 say on Wednesday he made a ‘fleeting visit’ to Lobería due to a trip he made from Mar del Plata to a field in the Napaleofú area.
That saw him meeting fans at a service station, where he took photos with fans and workers before going on his way.
That would suggest he’s not done with his break yet, but the website says otherwise, stating at the end of their articles that Martinez ‘will have to travel in the next hours to England to join Aston Villa’.
Quite when he’s back in between the sticks is another matter, but it seems at least Martinez is due back at Villa Park sooner rather than later following his extended break lapping up the adulation in his homeland.
