Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen has been one of the major figures in the Swedish rumour ill in recent weeks.
The veteran has drawn links with a move to Malmo, who want to sign him in January after their first-choice goalkeeper Johan Dahlin picked up a long-term injury.
Whether Villa are going let the goalkeeper leave or not remains to be seen, but the biggest hint yet about the player’s exit has now arrived.
Malmo celebrated their league title win yesterday and SportBladet note that Olsen was present at the stadium to witness them secure silverware.
His presence attracted the attention of Malmo player Henrik Rydström, who spoke to the outlet about the Aston Villa man and the title win, revealing that Olsen even visited the Swedish giants’ dressing room.
“I saw him yesterday (Saturday) on TV on the bench when Aston Villa played. Suddenly he was standing in our dressing room.”
Rydstrom was also asked about whether Olsen will join them in January and he seemed non-committal about it.
“No idea. It’s over my head. He has his connection here and we are in a situation where we are looking over all those pieces. You have to check with Danne [sporting director Daniel Andersson] about that.”
The ex-Roma man is yet to play even once for the Birmingham club this season.
Emi Martinez is well established between the sticks for Unai Emery’s side and if Olsen wants to play often, he will have to leave. Considering the injury issues faced by Malmo, it might prove to be an exciting opportunity for him.
