Aston Villa’s admiration of Christophe Galtier is something which dates back some time. The Saint Etienne boss has repeatedly been linked with Villa, and has confirmed the approaches himself on more than once occasion.

Thursday’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe looks at Galtier’s English connections ahead of his side taking on Manchester United in the Europa League tonight. Aston Villa get a special mention and it’s claimed that the club tried to get Galtier to manage them three times.

Each time Galtier considered it to be better to remain at Saint Etienne and he’s so far Screen Shot 2017-02-16 at 09.40.22proven to be right. Fifth in Ligue 1 and in the knockout stages of the Europa League is a good place for ASSE to be, and seems more attractive than being 16th in the Championship as Steve Bruce’s men are.

Galtier does still have ambitions to manage in England. He worked at Portsmouth briefly and had an internship at Liverpool when Kenny Dalglish was manager.

Perhaps it could be fourth time lucky for Aston Villa one day.
