Carles Gil’s move from Aston Villa to Deportivo La Coruna on loan for the season has the potential to work out just as badly as the move to Villa from Valencia in the first place.
The 23 year old arrived at Aston Villa in January 2015, with big hopes attached to him. He’d been highly rated at Valencia, although not quite good enough to push hard for the first team at that stage, therefore a transfer was considered a good opportunity for all involved.
Gil was happy to move to English football but he struggled throughout his time at Aston Villa. Things never really got going for the Spaniard and the repeated change in managers, coupled with sliding down the slippery Premier League slope, didn’t help the situation.
Out on loan at Deportivo, Gil has been left out of the club’s squad to face Granada due to a ‘technical decision’, says Diario Vasco. It’s a crucial game for Deportivo against fellow strugglers Granada, and a big blow for Gil.
Earlier this week, the Aston Villa player said: “I’m not happy, I’ve been playing little and I’ve been injured. But I’ll change that.”
Not this weekend he won’t.
