When covering Sporting’s pursuit for Mainz defender Jeremiah St. Juste, the Portuguese media often refers to the competition for the signing, as Premier League sides are said to be interested in the 25-year-old as well.
So as Jornal de Notícias today features a piece on this chase, they write a new name in the list of pretenders, and that’s Aston Villa’s.
The newspaper’s story is really about the competition, claiming Sporting are trying to move fast so they can try to ‘avoid’ a potential fight with any other clubs.
So besides the usual mentions to the likes of Leicester City and West Ham United, this time they refer to Aston Villa as the ‘last club who want to follow the player’s process’.
Regarding Sporting’s attempt to sign St. Juste, it’s said that in the coming days, the Lions will submit their offer of around €9m for the player, with performance goals to be added.
It’s worth recalling that just yesterday, newspaper Record brought a front page claiming the agreement with Mainz was ‘imminent’, as the Portuguese club would spend €10m on the signing.
Either way, Sporting look to be moving strong for St. Juste, and if Aston Villa still want a shot at this transfer, they better move fast and try to outbid the Lions.
