Aston Villa are in the picture to sign Sevilla’s Gonzalo Montiel, according to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC.
The right-back featured 43 times last season but Sevilla manager José Luis Mendilibar has not assured him of regular minutes next season.
Therefore, he’s made available in the market and several teams, including Aston Villa, are trying to secure his services.
Montiel joined the La Liga side from River Plate in 2021 and the latter are looking to bring him back to the club. The report says Aston Villa have joined them in ‘recent days’.
Monchi, the Premier League side’s director, knows the 26-year-old very well as he signed him for the Spanish club.
The Argentina international’s contract lasts until 2026. The report states the Europa League winners value him at €12m and believe Aston Villa would have ‘no problem’ meeting his asking price.
The outlet relays a claim from journalist José Manuel García, stating that Montiel’s agent has travelled in Spain to ‘define his future’. There’s a belief the player’s transfer could be sorted out this week.
Another report from Vamos Mi Sevilla FC states the South American has refused to go back to River Plate after they made an approach. The outlet adds he’s waiting for other offers, from clubs like Aston Villa.
Last week, Estadio Deportivo stated Unai Emery’s side made ‘simple contacts’ over a deal for Montiel.
