There are reports in the Italian media Atalanta are prepared to make Etrit Berisha’s loan move from Lazio a permanent one.

The Albanian international has stepped in as first choice goalkeeper since Marco Sportiello joined Firorentina, and these latest developments have put a question mark on Aston Villa younger Pierluigi Gollini’s future at the club.

Gollini joined Atalanta in the last window on loan from Aston Villa on a season and a half year long loan, and it was expected the 22-year-old would be installed as the club’s No.1 following the departure of Sportiello. However, Berishia is the one who has become Sportiello’s replacement, which has limited Gollini to just one game since his return to Italy in January.

Atalanta sporting director Giovanni Sartori has confirmed they are happy with the performances of Berishia, which has led to speculation Gollini could move on in the summer.

“Atalanta are very satisfied with the performances of Etrit Berisha, our number one goalkeeper as well as the Albanian national,” said Sartori.

Gollini was linked last year with a move from Aston Villa to Inter Milan, and these rumours have now resurfaced. Inter Milan want to bring in a goalkeeper as back up to Samir Handanović with claims they are still exploring the possibility of signing the Aston Villa player.

Gollini only signed for Aston Villa in the last summer window, and started the season as Roberto Di Matteo’s number one. However, after Steve Bruce replaced the Italian boss Gollini eventually lost his place in the Aston Villa starting eleven, and was then loaned to Atalanta in January.

It’s not explained how a move to Inter would work, but the likelihood would the cancellation of the player’s loan from Aston Villa to Atalanta, and then a fresh deal with Inter.

The Milan club are looking for a young goalkeeper to grow behind Handanović with the aim of taking over from him eventually. Gollini would surely be keener on that option that being back-up at Atalanta or Aston Villa.
