After his trip to France to watch Boubacar Kamara, it’s no secret that Steven Gerrard is looking for a new midfielder ahead of the next season.
The Marseille star is available on a free, meaning there is likely to be a lot of competition for his services, and he isn’t the only man the Aston Villa manager is looking at.
Another is Geoffrey Kondogbia, currently enjoying himself in Spain under Diego Simeone at Atlético Madrid, with whom he won the La Liga title last season.
However, it will take a lot to prise him away from the La Liga side, as Italian journalist Rudy Galletti claims they will not sell him ‘unless a huge offer comes in’.
It’s pointed out that Aston Villa ‘are interested in him’ because Gerrard ‘appreciates the midfielder a lot’ and watched him during the Manchester City clash in the Champions League.
As pointed out above, Galletti also reminds his followers of the interest in Kamara, meaning the Villans are monitoring a number of names ahead of the summer.
One thing is likely, however, and that’s a midfielder being signed in the next transfer window to bolster the current Aston Villa squad.
🚨‼️ #Kondogbia will stay at #Atleti unless a huge offer comes in.
📌 #AstonVilla are interested in him [#Gerrard appreciates a lot the midfielder and watched him in #ManCity–#Atletico], but #AVFC also have other names – such as #Kamara – on their wishlist. 🐓⚽ #Transfers pic.twitter.com/t7xlv1WKhw
