Last Wednesday, The Daily Mail reported Aston Villa are keen on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Haris Seferovic.
As the player is running out of contract with the Bundesliga side at the end of the season, an agreement with the player is all Steve Bruce would need to get a deal done.
But the Aston Villa claims have come as a surprise to the media in Portugal, because the local press thought he would be heading to somewhere else.
Back in January, Portuguese newspapers O Jogo and Correio Da Manhã both reported that Benfica had a agreed a deal to sign the player at the end of the season. The move has been stated as ‘almost certain’.
The Eagles’ negotiations were later revealed by the Frankfurt director Fredi Bobic, but although the Portuguese press took the quotes as if confirming the move, the official didn’t do that.
So for now, this story is really a matter of which paper you want to believe in. It seems that Seferovic still hasn’t signed a contract with Benfica, so he’s definitely able to join Aston Villa if he so pleases.
Question is: will he keep his word and head to Portugal?
