On June 24th, Calciomercato.it stated Brighton & Hove Albion have made contact to sign Teun Koopmeiners in the summer window. The Seagulls are now joined by Aston Villa and clubs from Italy in the chase for the Atalanta star.
According to Foot Mercato, a few Serie A sides have contacted Atalanta president Antonio Percassi and their sporting director, Tony D’Amico, to know the conditions needed to sign the midfielder.
It’s claimed the competition from Brighton and Aston Villa would make it complicated for these unnamed Serie A clubs to sign the 25-year-old.
Roberto De Zerbi has identified the Netherlands international as a ‘priority’ target to replace his star, Moisés Caicedo, who’s expected to leave The Amex in this window.
The report adds the Dutchman’s profile has pleased Unai Emery, which is why Aston Villa ‘intend to compete’ with the Seagulls for his signature.
Liverpool, who also have Koopmeiners’s name in their target list, are only monitoring his situation closely.
Foot Mercato explain that Atalanta are reluctant to let go of Koopmeiners and if there’s a sale, they ‘hope to get at least’ €35m in this window.
The midfielder managed 10 goals and four assists from 35 games last season.
