In comparison, surprise package Huddersfield are currently third in the table, and, despite a rather impressive drop in form, still remain in a playoff position.
Publishing an article on their website, the newspaper claim that both Aston Villa and Huddersfield are following Waasland-Beveren right-back Laurent Jans.
The 24-year-old, who has been capped 34 times for Luxembourg, has attracted a lot of attention Belgium with some very good performances, especially from European sides.
Both Werder Bremen and Stuttgart are keeping tabs, as well as a few Ligue 1 teams, but his reputation is also starting to grow in England, with Southampton making a first official ‘approach’ for the player.
While, at this moment in time, most of those clubs might appear more glamorous destinations than Birmingham or Huddersfield, the Championship clubs might have the advantage of giving him increased game time.
Furthermore, Sport Witness have had it confirmed from a source close to the player that the interest from England is very much real, as is the competition from Germany, France and Belgium.
The fee is also very affordable for both sides, with Waasland-Beveren reportedly only asking for around €1m (£880k) for the defender.
