Aston Villa are going ‘all out’ to try and sign Juan Foyth from Villarreal and an agreement is now ‘very close’ to make that happen.
That’s according to El Periódico Mediterráneo, who say Unai Emery is ‘betting heavily’ on his former player as he looks for a defensive reinforcement this month.
The newspaper reports that advanced negotiations are now taking place over the Argentine and Aston Villa are very close to completing negotiations with Villarreal for him.
The move will depend on the defender accepting the proposal. Aston Villa, though, have the advantage of being able to offer a long-term deal and an improvement economically. The defender also knows Emery well after the pair worked together at the Spanish club.
It’s not the first time that Aston Villa have looked to Villarreal to strengthen their squad after Emery’s time there after they signed Pau Torres from the club int eh summer of 2023.
They’re currently searching for a replacement for Diego Carlos after he left for Turkey, and it seems Foyth is now at the top of the list. This is despite him only returning from a year-long injury in December.
Villarreal are open to a move if they can ‘obtain a significant economic slice’ although the figures of the deal have not yet been revealed.
