Former Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer, after the club was relegated to the Championship.
Earlier reports suggested Veretout has no intentions of playing in the Championship, and has made that quite clear to Aston Villa.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Marseille are interested in signing the 23-year-old. Earlier this week, the Ligue 1 side made an enquiry for the player to sign him on a loan.
There were further discussions yesterday, but the clubs have failed to reach an agreement yet. Veretout is open to the possibility of returning to France’s Ligue 1, and a deal could suit all parties involved.
Marseille are also interested in signing Veretout’s teammate Carlos Sanchez, and the Colombian international is also said to be keen on switching to the Ligue 1 club.
It’d be interesting to see if Marseille can wrap up a deal for both the players. The French club have once again lost a big chunk of their team this summer, and are on a rebuilding process.
