According to a claim in the Italian media, Bologna are looking to extend the contract of Filip Helander.
The Sweden international has been linked with a move to Aston Villa after the Championship club sent an official to Italy last November to get a lowdown on the former Malmo defender.
TMW have today reported Bologna are looking to secure the future of Helander with his contract set to expire next year.
The Swede has become a key player under Roberto Donadoni and even though the Bologna coach is expected to leave at the end of the season, the Serie A club want Helander to commit himself to the club.
These latest developments may come as a blow to Aston Villa after they sent a scout to Bologna’s away victory over Hellas Verona earlier this season, with reports of ‘concrete interest’ in Helander.
The 24 year old would have impressed the Aston Villa official, being one of Bologna’s standout players during his side’s 3-2 win, but no approach came from the Championship side in the last window.
Any approach in the summer is likely to depend on Aston Villa getting promotion to the Premier League, but it shouldn’t be an issue for the English side matching what Bologna will be offering the central defender.
