On Tuesday, MilanLive.it reported that ‘attention should be paid’ to Aston Villa and a few other clubs when it comes to signing Borussia Mönchengladbach star Marcus Thuram.
The striker has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, managing 12 goals and four assists from 16 matches. His deal expires next June.
Thuram’s form for the Bundesliga side and the time left on his contract has attracted attention from Aston Villa and others.
Bild state the France international ‘advertises himself in almost every game’ for Gladbach. This would mean his displays are not going unnoticed and his ‘very likely departure’ could become ‘more expensive’ for his employer.
The Aston Villa target has seen his market value increase from €20m to €30m. If he were to leave as a free agent next summer, it will be a blow worth €30m for the German club.
With Unai Emery’s side and others interested in the 25-year-old, Mönchengladbach could find a buyer for him in January. Even if they do, there will ‘only be a fraction of the actual market value’ of €30m as compensation.
If it were up to Mönchengladbach manager Daniel Farke, Thuram will finish the campaign with his current employer.
“Of course, we don’t want to give up a player and we don’t have to. We will go into the World Cup break with the staff and then the cards will be reshuffled,” Farke said, as quoted by Bild.
