Once linked with a big transfer to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, Denzel Dumfries’ stock has dropped of late a bit.
The price required by Inter Milan has also decreased, which is why clubs that may not have as much money as the aforementioned duo could come forward, like Aston Villa.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim Unai Emery’s side have already had ‘contacts’ about the Dutch defender ahead of the summer.
We know that Aston Villa are by no means poor, having previously shown they are willing to spend heavily to back their manager, and it appears they could do so again with Dumfries.
Despite being somewhat inconsistent, the 26-year-old still has some fans abroad, and TuttoMercatoWeb claim he has received ‘concrete interest’ from Aston Villa.
The reason for that is Emery ‘only has Matty Cash’ for his right-back role at the moment, who is currently injured, which has led to him needing to deploy veteran Ashley Young to help out.
This is why he ‘wants a player in the summer’ to help the Poland international next season, with Dumfries being one of the names ‘held most in consideration’ over at Villa Park.
Something to keep an eye on over the next few weeks, especially with Aston Villa creeping up on Tottenham in the table.
