Not for the first time, Aston Villa are being credited with some level of interest in Jose Callejon.

It’s not hard to see where the story starts, given the Napoli player is represented by the same agent as Borja Baston and Pepe Reina. That he’s come up in conversation at some point is believable, but there’s a long way to go from there to an actual transfer.

Callejon’s contract with Napoli expires this summer, and unless he’s quickly offered a renewal he’s going to have to find a new club. Despite the contact with Aston Villa, Area Napoli say a move to the Premier League club is dismissed.

Should the 33 year old be forced to lave Naples in the next market then he’d prefer to head back to Spain, rather then test himself at such an age in English football.

Of course, that will depend on him getting offers, and should Villa avoid relegation, and Callejon struggle to get a good offer, then it would be no surprise if the agent tries his luck again with the Birmingham club.
