Aston Villa’s chase for Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves is today again mentioned by the Portuguese media, this time with newspaper A Bola featuring an article.

The newspaper has a piece claiming the Premier League club ‘haven’t forgotten’ about the player, and are ‘considering a new attack’ for him soon.

It’s made clear that Aston Villa’s interest is long-standing, but they haven’t placed an official bid for the signing.

What they should know is that Sporting will use €80m, the price for his release clause, as the reference to negotiate his sale.

Bayer Leverkusen had already tried his signing before, but with a €30m bid, and didn’t even get close to landing him. Now it’s said Aston Villa could be the second to try.

Gonçalves arrived at Sporting in 2020 and has great numbers at the club, with 76 goals and 51 assists in 178 appearances so far.

That’s one of the reasons why the Lions aren’t expected to make big discounts, and at this stage, Aston Villa are surely aware of how much it will take.
