Aston Villa are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Villarreal’s Álex Baena, according to AS.
The Villans took Pau Torres from the La Liga side in the summer and even tried to sign the winger in the same window. The Yellow Submarine closed the exit door for Baena, after selling Torres, Nicolas Jackson and Samuel Chukwueze.
Barcelona had also looked at the Aston Villa target in the last window and continue to have him on their radar.
Mateu Alemany was of the belief Baena would be a good fit at Barca and the director’s exit from the Camp Nou hasn’t changed their plans regarding the Spain international. They could face competition from elsewhere and this is when Unai Emery’s side are mentioned.
It’s claimed the Premier League side, who have been interested in the player since the summer, can make a move for him in January.
The attacker has a contract until 2028 and AS say it includes a €60m release clause. They also add the Spanish club have changed their stance and are willing to negotiate his sale for €40m, a figure that Aston Villa may be able to match in the winter market.
Due to Torres’ transfer, Aston Villa have a good relationship with Villarreal and that could help them in a potential deal for Baena.
